The program included panels on supply chain security, traceability, cybersecurity and risk management.
Logistics traceability strengthens the country’s tourism reputation, speeds up the import of inputs for construction and creates trustworthy environments for real estate investment. BASC standards can be integrated into supply chains, public tenders and urban planning.
SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican chapter of the Business Alliance for Secure Commerce (BASC) held its 18th National Congress under the theme “Towards a Secure Logistics Hub,” with the participation of business leaders, customs authorities and international organizations.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the logistics sector to continuous improvement, public–private cooperation and the adoption of technologies that strengthen the country’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub.
The program included panels on supply chain security, traceability, cybersecurity and risk management.
Real estate: regulated environment and investment attraction
Strengthening the legal framework and logistics traceability promotes a reliable environment for real estate investment. Projects in logistics zones, industrial parks and port areas require urban planning and risk management. BASC certification can be incorporated as a criterion in real estate developments oriented toward foreign trade.
The country’s reputation as a secure logistics hub helps attract investors who prioritize stability, regulatory compliance and regional connectivity.
Tourism: traceability and international reputation
The implementation of BASC standards in the supply chain has a direct impact on the tourism sector, as hotels, airports and operators depend on reliable suppliers for inputs, technology and food.
Logistics traceability strengthens the destination’s reputation in international markets and improves visitors’ perception of safety.
In addition, positioning Santo Domingo as the venue for international congresses such as the BASC event boosts corporate and business tourism, increasing demand for specialized tourism services.
Construction: logistics for inputs and regulatory compliance
The construction sector is linked to logistics development through the import of materials, machinery and technology. The adoption of BASC standards can reduce operational risks and facilitate customs processes.
Projects in ports, free zones and industrial parks require coordination with companies certified in logistics security.
Compliance with international standards also represents an added value in public and private tenders, especially for projects related to logistics infrastructure.
Certified companies
During the congress, BASC recognized 33 companies for their compliance with international security standards. Although most of the recognized companies belong to the logistics, industrial and security sectors, it was noted that sectors such as tourism, construction and real estate are still not among those certified.
This gap opens opportunities to extend the reach of the BASC system toward strategic areas linked to territorial development and investment.
The event also included the signing of inter-institutional agreements, conferences on cybersecurity and money laundering, and panels on technological innovation in the supply chain.
